Nicki Kellogg, an operations manager for FedEx Ground in Zelienople, was honored last week for saving the life of a fellow employee.

Saveri Nandigama, an analyst supporting FedEx as part of Edelman Global Advisory, said Kellogg’s actions exemplified FedEx’s “Purple Promise.”

“The Purple Promise is a way of framing FedEx accomplishments that are done by FedEx employees, stepping up to help others in need,” Nandigama said. “Because, technically, this isn’t in the FedEx job description: helping an unresponsive colleague.”

According to Nandigama, Kellogg was just 30 minutes into her shift when she discovered an unresponsive team member with a weak pulse.

“She immediately performed chest compressions while other managers called 911,” Nandigama said.

Thanks to Kellogg’s swift actions, she said, the team member made a full recovery.

“She really stepped in as a leader and supported the people around her as well as the person who was in a medical situation,” Nandigama said. “It was remarkable.”

Kellogg received the company’s Purple Promise and Humanitarian Award in a ceremony Thursday at FedEx Ground’s Pittsburgh headquarters.

“These awards are really there to stand for how these employees go above and beyond the job description they’re given when they step into this role,” Nandigama said.

The Purple Promise and Humanitarian Award is a yearly award for team members from all over the United States.

At the event, employees who’ve been given the award have the opportunity to meet other awardees, she explained. “Some people come as far as California, and they get to meet each other and be honored by the company.”

Like Kellogg, every honoree has performed some exemplary service “for the communities they serve and support,” Nandigama said.

“It’s definitely something impressive and a very cool opportunity to be honored for it,” she said.
