Butler County hoopers show out at Cager Classic

Three Butler County girls led the West squad to a victory in the 26th annual Cager Classic at Highlands High School Saturday. Freeport’s Melaina DeZort totaled 14 points, while Knoch’s Hattie McGraw added 12 and Nina Shaw four in a 67-60 win.

Shaw also had six boards and five steals, and Mars’ Olivia Donelly won the game’s MVP award playing for the East team. Fellow Planet Lauren Atwell had four points and Butler’s Justine Forbes and Hannah Aldridge had six and five, respectively.

On the boys’ side, Freeport’s Zach Clark broke a 12-year-old team scoring record with a layup. His Yellowjackets teammate, Gavin Croney, had 20 points and Knoch’s James Snyder finished with 14.

Butler’s Ryan Porch won the game’s MVP honor with 22 points, and Golden Tornado teammate Colin Casteel had a dozen.
