Trojans hold on for 1-point win
It took sweating out a last-second shot, but North Catholic’s boys hoops team outlasted Beaver, 60-59, at home Friday night to claim second-place in WPIAL Section 2-4A. The Trojans led for most of the contest then fell behind in the fourth frame, before Max Hurray took the advantage back by knocking down a three with 16 seconds to go.
The visitors’ Brady Mayo missed the mark on a final gasp. Hurray had a game-high 25 points — including six treys — while Matt Ellery added 15 and Andrew Maddalon 10.
New Castle 65, Seneca Valley 60 — The Red Hurricanes improved to 19-2 and 9-1 in WPIAL Section 1-6A by beating the Raiders on the road. Seneca Valley senior Luke Lawson bucketed a 28 points, while both Aiden Lyczek (11) and Connor Oros (10) also got into the double-figures.

Beaver Falls 73, Summit Academy 67 — Down by 13 points at halftime, a rally by the Knights (10-6) fell short in this non-section game Thursday.
Allen Grimes paced Summit with 23 points, Tayvone Bibbs had 17, Ki’Ron Douglas added 14 and Elijah Adams 11.
Redbank Valley 53, Moniteau 38 — A 16-2 deficit in the second quarter doomed the Warriors in this Thursday loss.
Aydan Jackson was the lone Moniteau player to reach double digits in points, scoring 18 points.
The Warriors (12-9) close the regular season Tuesday at home against Karns City.

Three Butler marksmen finished in the top 16 at Thursday’s WPIAL championship meet, held at Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club in Canonsburg, and qualified for the state championship in the process.
Brady Stewart placed fifth (200-17x) while teammate Hayleigh Gorog was ninth (200-16x) and Luke Frazier finished in 14th place (200-14x).
McGuffey’s Riley Dunn earned a second straight district crown by shooting 200-19x.
The competition included 82 shooters.
Five different players scored goals Thursday night as Seneca Valley defeated Bethel Park, 5-3. Jack Smelscer, Jaxson Read and Michael Varrati all had a goal and assist. Alec Malichky and Tyler Garvin scored goals as well.
Johnathan Nichols made 30 saves. The Raiders host North Allegheny at 7 p.m. Monday.
