Knoch clinches playoff spot with win

Teegan Finucan scored 19 points Tuesday night and Jackson Bauman added 10 for Knoch as the Knights clinched a WPIAL boys basketball playoff spot with a 59-44 section win over Greensburg Salem.

Gasparo Porco, who scored nine points, received the Karen Shoop Memorial Award as the Knights celebrated their Senior Night.

Knoch (6-12, 4-3) snapped a two-game skid. Greensburg Salem (5-14, 1-6) was led by Ryan Burkhart with 20 points.

Hopewell (3-17, 0-10) dropped its 15th straight game.

Mars 64, West Allegheny 34 — Remi Black scored 21 points and Tasso Sfanos netted 20 as the Planets (13-5, 5-2) cruised to victory. Mars scored 42 points in the middle two quarters after being held to five in the first frame.

West Allegheny fell to 8-11 overall, 1-6 in section play.

Grove City 61, Slippery Rock 43 — The Rockets (6-10) trailed at Grove City by only two points at halftime (26-24), but dropped their third straight game. Grove City (9-8) won its third straight contest.

Highlands 78, Freeport 65 — The Yellowjackets (11-7, 3-4) had a two-game winning streak snapped with this road defeat. Highlands (15-3, 5-2) completed a sweep of its season series against Freeport.

Girls Basketball

Mackenzie Parks scored eight points, but A-C Valley (0-18) remained winless with a 60-22 loss at Brookville. Kirsten Davie paced the Raiders with 14 points.

The Falcons host North Clarion Thursday.

Lily Homan led North Clarion (17-1) with 19 points.
