Rock women edge Lock Haven

SLIPPERY ROCK — Deleah Gibson scored 25 points and the Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter for a 61-57 victory over Lock Haven at Morrow Field House on Monday night.

The visiting Bald Eagles (7-10, 5-7) took a 44-41 lead into the final period, but fell victim to a 16-5 run by The Rock (10-8, 5-7) in dropping their fourth straight game. Isabellah Middleton scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds for SRU.

Kennedy Middleton tallied 10 points, 11 rebounds and four assists while Kaylin Venick had 10 points and four assists for The Rock. Alana Robinson led Lock Haven with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Lock Haven 80, SRU (men) 75 — After erasing a 15-point deficit in the final six minutes of regulation, The Rock (12-6, 6-6) lost in double overtime. The defeat snapped SRU’s 13-game home winning streak.

Monday’s game marked SRU’s first double-overtime game in four years.

Khalid Gates paced The Rock with 25 points, nine rebounds, three steals and three assists. Amante Britt added 17 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists. Jonathan McFall had 15 points and nine rebounds.

Javy Davis led Lock Haven (12-5, 8-4) with 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals.

Both SRU teams host Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday at Morrow Field House. The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m., the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.
