BUTLER TWP — Response time from the Butler Township Volunteer Fire District improved from an average of 24 minutes in 2021 to 11 minutes in 2022 — a 57% time improvement, according to township emergency services director Scott Frederick.

Frederick said at Monday’s meeting of the Butler Township commissioners that the department was able to better its response time, and it also gained around 10 to 12 new active members in 2022.

He also said more information is coming from the department soon regarding the number of calls township crews responded to throughout 2022.

“The fire district will be putting out an annual report in the coming weeks,” Frederick said.

Commissioners President Dave Zarnick said the township could always use more emergency response volunteers, for both the fire service and the administration side of the department.

“We’re in the same boat as everybody else, everybody’s pleading for help,” Zarnick said.

The township’s first meeting of 2023 Monday saw the commissioners approve several bond reductions and releases for ongoing and completed construction projects in the municipality. The only other business the commissioners approved was an update to their fee schedule, which Butler Township manager Tom Knights said added a few new prices the township had not formally had in writing.

“Changes for this year was the addition of color copies, inclusion of alcohol permits, fees for various sewage services and inspections along with various communication towers based on size,” Knights said.

The fee schedule can be found on the township’s website.
