Planets race past Fox Chapel in 68-51 victory

Olivia Donnelly had a game-high 25 points, while Vita Vargo chipped in with 15 and Lauren Atwell 14 as the Planets rebounded from a loss against Highlands with a 68-51 win over Fox Chapel.

Hampton 56, Freeport 51 — Brooke Kmetz and Ava Soilis combined for 27 points, but the Yellowjackets fell just short on the road.

Boys Basketball

North Hills 75, Mars 42 — The Planets were outclassed in the sectional matchup, mainly because of a 31-point effort by the Indians’ Royce Parham. Tasso Sfanos and Ryan Ceh both pinned up 15 points in the home defeat.

Lincoln Park 86, North Catholic 71 — The Trojans lost on the road after being tied up at halftime. Max Hurray paced North with 29 points, while Andrew Maddalon netted 20 and Nick Larson 15.

Mikey Crawford (24), Maleek Thomas (21), and Brandon Cummings (20) all bucketed at least 20 points for the hosts.

Aquinas Academy 87, Summit Academy 75 — Despite a hot first quarter in which they scored 28 points, the Knights (4-2) were passed up at home in this section opener. Ki’Ron Douglas bucketed 24 points for Summit Academy, but the undefeated Crusaders’ Vinnie Cugini posted an eye-popping 47 points without sinking one trey.
