Boil order in effect for residents of Goehring Road
After repairs to a leaking valve near 9541 Goehring Road in Cranberry Township, the area has been placed under a boil order until at least Thursday, Aug. 31.
“We had a water leak (Monday) night and in certain instances, depending on how the repair goes, sometimes you have to have a boil advisory while we are testing the lines,” township manager Dan Santoro said Tuesday, Aug. 29. “It’s a precaution.”
Santoro said crews worked through the night to repair the line, but results for the water sample are not expected until Thursday.
“We took a sample (Tuesday) morning, and then we’re required to take a second sample, which will be Wednesday,” he said. “Assuming everything’s well, we expect results by Thursday, at which time the advisory will be lifted.”
Until then, residents at 9541 through 9595 Goehring Road as well as all five streets in the Preserve development are asked to boil their water as a precaution.
A statement by the township Tuesday reminded residents that water should be boiled for brushing teeth, making ice, washing dishes and food preparation — not just for drinking.
“Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using,” the statement read, “or use bottled water.”
Drinking inadequately treated water puts residents at risk of consuming disease-causing organism, according to the statement, including bacteria, viruses and parasites.
Residents will be informed once corrective action has been completed and when the boil order is lifted.

“We don’t believe, generally, there’s any challenge with the water system,” Santoro said. “It’s just a precautionary measure.”
