Harmony Fire District holds 13th annual Brotherhood Memorial Ride
For the 13th year in a row, a large caravan of motorcycles will roar into Zelienople on Sunday, Aug. 27, for the Harmony Fire District’s annual Brotherhood Memorial Ride.
The ride was started as a result of a traffic accident in January 2010 which took the lives of three members of the then-Zelienople Fire Department — Sam Bucci, Elijah Lunsford and honorary member Trevor Barkley.
In 2015, the department merged into the Harmony Fire District, which took over control of the memorial ride.
This year’s ride will start and end at Zelienople Community Park on Beaver Street, with the riders following a back-and-forth route, roughly 75 miles. The midway point will be at the Pine Township Engine Company in Grove City.
“We’ll stop just for a quick refresher and restroom break, and then we’ll be returning back to the Zelie park,” said Paul Reynolds, firefighter and chairman of the Brotherhood Memorial Ride committee.
The ride will cost $20 for riders to participate and $10 for passengers. However, a motorcycle is not required for participation, as the event also will feature a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction.
Proceeds from the ride will go toward a fund established to benefit the families of fallen or injured first responders.
“It benefits first responders if they get injured on the job,” Reynolds said. “We donate it to families of people who tragically passed suddenly … police who get injured on the job and things like that. We donate to those families.”
Registration for the ride takes place between 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday morning, and riders take off from the park at 11:15 a.m.
There also will be a luncheon for the riders after they return to the Zelienople park.
Reynolds is anticipating “around 100” motorcycles and 130 to 150 total riders, including passengers.
