Golden Tornado girls down Mercyhurst Prep

Thanks to double-figure scoring efforts from Justine Forbes, Amelia McMichael, and Hannah Aldridge, the Butler girls basketball team downed Mercyhurst Prep, 67-53, on the road Thursday night.

The Golden Tornado went 16-for-19 from the stripe, along with knocking down seven treys.

Boys Basketball

Union weathered 13 threes by host Titusville in an 81-51 win, as Zander Laughlin bucketed 33 points, including five three-pointers. Payton Johnston added 23 points and Dawson Camper another 15.

North Catholic 89, Plum 45 — The Trojans posted 54 points in the first half and held a 27-point lead at the halftime break. North drained 14 treys and had four players score in double digits — Max Hurray (20), Andrew Maddalon (16), Matt Ellery (16), and Max Rottmann (11).

Seneca Valley 55, Penn-Trafford 42 — Luke Lawson totaled 18 points and Andrew Roy 13 as the Raiders (2-5) got back in the win column.

Freeport 71, Redbank Valley 49 — The Yellowjackets dominated the first half, outscoring the Bulldogs 46-20.

Gavin Croney scored 14 points for Freeport (5-2), which won its fourth straight contest. Ben Lane added 11 points and Brady Sullivan had 10.
