Man found with 13 bricks of heroin, police say

State police accused a man of possessing 13 bricks of heroin and various other drug paraphernalia, according to charges filed Monday.

Zachari L. Roth, 39, of Columbus, Ohio, was charged with felony drug sales, three counts of misdemeanor drug possession, one count of misdemeanor use and possession of drug paraphernalia and two traffic citations following the incident.

Police said around 4:20 p.m. Monday, police stopped Roth in a parking area on West Wayne Street in Butler City. The vehicle had problems with its rear lighting system, according to documents.

During the stop, Roth kept trying to push a green bag under the driver’s seat with his feet, police said. He told officers he was test driving the vehicle before purchasing it.

Police determined that there was an active warrant for Roth’s arrest in Ohio. Roth was detained on the warrant, and a vehicle search was conducted.

According to charging documents, the green bag contained 11 individually wrapped bricks of heroin and a brick of empty glassine bags. Two additional bricks were found on Roth’s person along with a bag of powder heroin, police said.

A total of 572 bags were found in Roth’s possession, police said, along with a pipe, glassine baggies, pen tube and copper wire. More heroin was contaminated and unable to be counted due to it being concealed on Roth’s person.

In addition, $350 was found in Roth’s pocket.

Roth is being held in Butler County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bond. His preliminary hearing before District Judge William Fullerton is scheduled for Jan. 9.
