Mars boys come back to down Franklin

Moniteau girls crush Brockway

Mars overcame a seven-point deficit at halftime and outlasted Franklin, 80-71, in overtime at the Sharon Boys Basketball Tip-Off Tournament Friday night.

Tasso Sfanos scored 33 points in the victory and Ryan Ceh added 21. Austin Campbell and Deven Koch both scored 10 points.

The Planets had taken a 69-63 lead late in regulation before the Knights rallied with a 6-0 run to force the extra period.

Karns City 76, Portersville Christian 39 — The Gremlins featured a number of standout performances in this game played at A-C Valley High School.

Shane Peters had a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds while Taite Beighley poured in 17 points and dished out seven assists.

Braden Grossman added 16 points and Jacob Callihan 12.

Hampton 66, Seneca Valley 60 — Tyler Pepin led a trio of Raiders scoring in double figures with 20 points at North Hills Middle School.

Luke Lawson had 14 points and Connor Oros 13 for the Raiders.

Union 64, Brockway 34 — At the Brookville Tip-Off Tournament, the Golden Knights received a 21-point effort from Payton Johnston as they overwhelmed the Rovers.

Skyler Roxbury netted 20 points and Zander Laughlin 14 for the Knights, who led 52-30 after three quarters.

North East 50, A-C Valley 41 — The host Falcons received 21 points from Jay Clover and 10 courtesy of Alex Preston.

Girls Basketball

Moniteau posted a convincing 55-23 victory over Brockway at the Rovers’ own tournament.

Catherine Kelly led the way with 17 points while Abbey Jewart and Kendall Sankey both chipped in with 10 points. Jewart added five assists.

McDowell 50, Seneca Valley 43 (OT) — Three players combined to score 31 points for the Raiders — Brionna Brown (11), Allison Sevin (10) and Lauren Folino (10).

Mars 48, Laurel 44 — Four of Olivia Donnelly’s 16 points came at the free throw line late to help the Planets seal this win at the Slippery Rock Tournament.

Vita Vargo added 11 points in the victory.

DuBois Central Catholic 45, Karns City 36 — The Gremlins’ Chloe Fritch scored a game-high 18 points, but the Cardinals outscored KC 28-17 in the second half to earn this victory.

Youngsville 32, A-C Valley 31 — This game, played in Marienville, was tied at 26 entering the fourth quarter.

Mackenzie Parks managed a double-double in defeat, scoring 13 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Keira McVay also drained 13 points for the Falcons.

Plum 49, Freeport 48 — The host Yellowjackets were outscored 27-15 in the second half.

Ava Soilis scored 19 points and Melaina DeZort added 16 in defeat.

Union City 47, Union 24 — At Meadville High School, the Damsels fell behind 17-5 in the first period and never recovered.

Hailey Theuret and Katie Gezik both scored seven points for Union.

Bowling

Freeport split a meeting with Armstrong, the girls winning 7-0 and the boys losing by the same score.

Julia Cummings had games of 224 and 229, helping her roll a 645 series.

Colin Cummings had a 229 single and a 569 series in the boys’ loss.
