SRU announces 4 presidential candidates

The four candidates who will interview for Slippery Rock University’s presidential position were named in an announcement Tuesday.

The candidates include Chance Glenn, current provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Houston-Victoria; Karen Riley, provost at Regis University; David Jones, vice president of student affairs and enrollment management at Minnesota State University, Mankato; and Mirta Martin, former president at Fairmont State University.

Since early 2022, a presidential search committee has worked to replace current SRU president William Behre, who will retire after 2023 commencement.

Along with the candidate names, the committee also released a schedule for each candidate’s two-day visit to campus.

The interviews begin with Nov. 28 and occur back-to-back until Dec. 2. Glenn will visit from Nov. 28 to 29. Riley will be on campus Nov. 29 to 30. Jones will visit Nov. 30 to Dec. 1, and Martin will visit from Dec. 1 to Dec. 2.

Each candidate's first day will include a meeting with the university’s administration and leadership. The second day will feature lunch with select students and the president’s cabinet, a campus tour and scheduled forums, including one open to the public.

The forum schedule is posted on the university website with specific times for non-faculty union and staff, managers, students, and Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculty members to ask the candidates questions.

The public forums will take place at 3:10 p.m. Nov. 29 and 30 and Dec. 1 and 2 in the Smith Student Center Theater on campus.
