Homicide suspect in custody after body found in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County

A Meadville man is facing criminal homicide charges after another man was found dead along a road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.

Johnny F. Henry Jr., 31, of Meadville, was taken into custody in Columbus, Ohio, on an arrest warrant and is being held in Franklin County Jail in Ohio, according to a Wednesday news release from New Castle state police.

Henry is accused of killing Joseph Detello, 40, at a location on North Cottage Road in Jackson Township, Mercer County.

Police said Detello was found unresponsive by a passerby around 4:30 p.m. Nov. 3 on Young Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The passerby stopped to assist with what he thought was a man having issues with his vehicle tire, state police said in a news release.

The passerby administered CPR and contacted 911. Two other people who were bicycling in the area also stopped to assist until first responders arrived and determined Detello was deceased, police said.

On Nov. 4, his death was ruled a homicide following an autopsy conducted by the Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver. The cause of death was asphyxiation, or suffocation.

Police said their investigation concluded that the scene of the homicide was located in Mercer County.
