Events planned at state parks

The following events have been scheduled at Moraine and McConnells Mill state parks.

1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, Bike Rental Parking Lot on the North Shore at Moraine. Will the woolly bear caterpillars correctly predict the winter? What other animals and nature signs have traditionally been observed as we approach wintertime?

Join in this hike to explore nature along the North Country Trail, beginning at the bike rental building, 157 North Shore Drive. Dress for the weather, take your own water and snacks, and wear sturdy footwear. Light snow is fine, but severe weather and dangerous road conditions automatically cancel the event.

11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, Glacier Ridge Trail at 528 Boat Launch at Moraine, Veteran’s Day Hike.

Invite a veteran and hike at Moraine. The hilly terrain is scenic, and the trail (rated difficult to moderate) connects with the North Country Trail to make a loop of about 2 miles. All are welcome. Take favorite trail snacks and your own drinking water. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear.

1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, Pleasant Valley Picnic Area on the South Shore at Moraine. Explore the Sunken Garden Trail for signs of how animals get ready for winter.

All ages are invited on this moderate hike of about 1 mile, watching for signs of wildlife activity. Dress for the weather, take your own water and snacks, and wear sturdy footwear.
