Freeport, North volleyball join WPIAL finals
Freeport’s girls volleyball team reached the WPIAL 2A championship game with a 3-0 victory over Quaker Valley Tuesday night at North Allegheny High School..
The top-seeded Yellowjackets will play the Avonworth-Shenango winner for the WPIAL crown at 1 p.m. Saturday at Robert Morris University’s UPMC Events Center . The Avonworth-Shenango match went five sets late Tuesday night at North Allegheny.
Pine-Richland 3, Seneca Valley 0 — The Raiders (12-5) saw their season come to an end Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to Pine-Richland in the WPIAL 4A semifinals. Scores were 25-18, 25-16, 25-23.
Alex Kryzan led SV with 16 digs. Abby Berger added 15 digs while Olivia Congdon, Brooke Pelloni and Bria Stepp had six kills each. Bria Stepp and Cassidy Matteo had 11 assists each.
North Catholic 3, Thomas Jefferson 0 — The Trojanettes, with just one loss all season, reached the WPIAL 3A championship game with a 3-0 win over Thomas Jefferson in the semifinal round. Match scores were 25-14, 25-20, 25-17.
Ally Feczko had 19 kills and Ella Koziara 11 kills for North Catholic. Sydney Jones had 32 assists, Alex Stepic 16 digs and Katie McNelly three blocks.
The Trojanettes will play South Fayette for the district crown Saturday at Robert Morris University.
Girls Soccer
Simone Sharpless scored a goal for North Catholic in the first half, but Avonworth tied the game in the second half and scored a 2-1 overtime win in a WPIAL 2A semifinal Tuesday night.
The Trojanettes fell to 15-2 on the season and had a 14-game winning streak snapped. Avonworth (18-3) dropped decisions of 2-0 and 3-0 to North Catholic during the regular season.
Hockey
Owen Denny had four goals and an assist as Butler defeated Meadville, 9-4, Monday night. Parker Worsley and Brody Simko both had a goal and two assists, Adam Deal a goal and assist for the Golden Tornado.
Nick Hoffman scored his first-ever varsity goal for Butler. Carson Bish netted a goal and Grant Holt had two assists. Goaltender EJ Delaney stopped 23 of 27 shots.
Butler returns to action at 9:10 p.m. Nov. 14, hosting Franklin Regional at the Frozen Pond.
