Keeping property’s beauty intact was the Prestons’ intent
I grew up in Meridian directly across from Preston Laboratories, a glass science research facility. Frank and Jane Preston were very good friends of my family. They allowed us onto their property at any time to fish, observe the wildlife, reflect on the beauty of their property and enjoy the many, many peacocks that called the Preston property home — as long as we took care of it and didn't destroy any part of it.
Upon their passing, the property was deeded to the township so that everyone could enjoy its beauty. Frank and Jane Preston would certainly not approve of the proposed parking lots and expansion. Jane wrote in her will: "It is my intent through this devise that said Premises be kept intact." Frank was quoted as saying, “I wanted to have the best looking place in the industry. I did not expect to have the most palatial buildings; I hoped to make the place attractive by landscaping and by its surroundings.”
It is my opinion that the Prestons would not want any part of the property to be commercialized or disgraced by the additions that appear to be planned by Butler Township. Keeping the property intact and attractive was the couple’s lifetime wish.
