SV boys soccer will enter playoffs unbeaten

Raiders roll on

Trailing by a goal, Seneca Valley’s boys soccer team received scores from Gavin Loya and Cole Kamarec in a 2-1 victory at North Allegheny Monday night.

The Raiders (16-0-1, 13-0-1) finish the regular season undefeated. They are two-time defending WPIAL Class 4A champions and finished runner-up in the state last year.

Karns City 3, West Shamokin 0 — Jacob Callihan had two goals and Lathan Price scored once for the Gremlins.

Colson Ritzert, Adam Smith and Callihan each had one assist.

Boys Golf

Slippery Rock senior Jacob Wolak shot an even-par 72 and is in a three-way tie for sixth place following the first day of the PIAA Class 2A championship tournament, held Monday at Penn State University’s Blue Course.

The 36-hole event concludes Tuesday.

Also competing in the event are Knoch’s Mitch Davies (79, tied for 24th), Moniteau’s Jacob Felsing (81, tied for 37th) and Dawson Wallace (93, tied for 70th); Freeport’s Nate Covey (85, tied for 56th).

Class 3A — At PSU’s White Course, Butler’s Hunter Swidzinski carded a one-over 73 and is stuck in a seven-way tie for 11th place.

Mars’ Blake Bertolo tallied 78 strokes and is tied for 36th.

Girls Golf

In the Class 3A championship, Seneca Valley’s Madison Sharek fired an 84 and is tied for 16th. Her teammate, Lihini Ranaweera, is tied for 22nd after carding an 85.

Class 2A — Freeport’s Lillie Snow had a 91 and is in a tie for 23rd place.

Karns City’s Chloe Fritch shot 100 and is in 32nd place.

Girls Tennis

Knoch reached the WPIAL 2A championship match with a 5-0 victory over No. 3 seed Beaver on Monday.

The second-seeded Knights have won all three of their WPIAL tourney matches by 5-0 scores, defeating Ringgold and Derry Area in the first two rounds. Knoch will face top-seeded Sewickley Academy in the title match at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Washington & Jefferson College.

This will be the sixth straight year that the Knights and Panthers have met for the WPIAL crown. Sewickley won 2017-19 and 2021. Knoch claimed the title in 2020.

Girls Soccer

Emma Dailey tallied four goals and two assists Monday as Karns City rolled to an 11-1 victory over Punxsutawney. McKenna Martin tallied three goals.

Lyrik Reed and Cece Morrow both had a goal and assist for the Gremlins. Paige Dodd scored on a penalty kick and Bella Shields added a goal. Hannah Dailey had three assists.

Butler 6, North Hills 0 — The Golden Tornado closed the regular season with this victory.

Samantha Miller and Leah Deal led the way with two goals apiece while Leah Weiland and Sydney Patterson both added one. Delaney Yaracs recorded four saves in the shutout.

Butler (10-6-1, 8-5-1) will be competing in the upcoming WPIAL Class 4A playoffs.

Slippery Rock 6, Grove City 1 — Hannah Plunkard scored three times while Eve Miller, Brooke Arblaster and Aiva Reich each found the net once.

Knoch 3, Deer Lakes 1 — With this victory, the Knights (13-3-1, 9-1-1) moved to within a win of clinching the Section 2-2A championship.

No other details were available. Knoch can clinch the crown with a win at Apollo-Ridge Tuesday.

Freeport 6, Highlands 1 — The playoff-bound Yellowjackets (13-2, 10-2) closed the regular season with this win on the road. No other details were available.

Volleyball

Kendall Ritzert had six aces and eight assists as Karns City defeated Forest Area, 3-0. Match scores were 25-5, 25-12, 25-14.

Ava Fox had two aces and seven kills, Natalie Hess four kills, Cayley Craig and Jessica Dunn three aces and two kills each, Nicole Taylor six aces, a kill and three assists in the win.

Laurel 3, Butler 2 — The Golden Tornado fell to the host Spartans after taking the first two sets.

Audrey Lehman had 13 kills and three blocks for Butler (6-9), which lost by scores of 25-20, 25-13, 17-25, 20-25 and 13-15.

Brynn Cornibe tallied 11 kills and Brynn Morton eight kills and 13 digs.

Clarion-Limestone 3, Moniteau 0 — Davina Pry had four kills, three blocks and an ace while Marissa Pry tallied five kills and three aces in the Warriors’ 25-18, 25-14, 26-24 loss.

Knoch 3, Highlands 0 — Alyssa Gallsgher had six kills for the Knights (8-8) in this non-section match. Madi Gardner served 11 points and Melissa Karastury 10.
