Scoop gets back on course

A one-loss week is never my goal, but I will take last week's 9-1 effort. I feel I'm back on track and primed for an impressive run.

It's hard to believe only four weeks remain in the regular season. I can't afford to have another bad showing.

My record stands at 50-14 and I've gained some momentum. Let's see if I can keep a good thing going.

Butler at Westinghouse — The Bulldogs are a Class 2A team, but a very, very good one. They've scored no less than 38 points this season and have not allowed more than 18.

Both of those streaks end, but the winning does not.

Score: Westinghouse 31-23

Seneca Valley at Hempfield — Both teams were Class 6A teams last year and the Raiders thumped the Spartans 49-0. Hempfield seems to have improved, but not nearly enough.

Score: Seneca Valley 30-13

Knoch vs. Shady Side Academy — Knoch's had more than its share of heartbreak this season. The Knights come painfully close to ending that trend.

Score: Shady Side 22-18

Kiski Area at Mars — The Cavaliers are winless. Mars is coming off an embarrassing loss to Highlands. This adds up to a long night for Kiski.

Score: Mars 49-7

East Allegheny at Freeport — The game I've been waiting for. The winner will have the inside track on the Allegheny Six Conference championship. Playing at home and sporting a great defense, I can't pick against the Yellowjackets.

Score: Freeport 19-14

Hampton at North Catholic — The loser of this game will be in serious jeopardy of not making the playoffs. North has struggled, but I see the Trojans using desperation to their advantage.

Score: North Catholic 23-21

Punxsutawney at Karns City — The Chucks are much better than in recent years. They'll keep this one interesting, but the Gremlins score late to ice the win.

Score: Karns City 34-20

Moniteau at Central Clarion — Moniteau rallied last week for its first conference win of the season. Now the Warriors hit the road to play the conference-leading Wildcats.

Score: Central Clarion 27-12

Sharon at Slippery Rock — The Rockets were not perfect last week, but found a way to win at Hickory to avoid a third consecutive loss. Now they get rolling again.

Score: Slippery Rock 28-17

Port Allegany at Union/A-C Valley — It's difficult for me to think of the Falcon Knights as a 3-4 football team, but that's what they'll be after running into the Gators.

Score: Port Allegany 30-20

Summit Academy at Riverview — The Raiders prevail in a battle of struggling teams.

Score: Riverview 24-12

The stress of picking games has Scoop's feathers turning gray.
