Tornado continue unbeaten streak
Aiden Wisda scored a pair of goals Monday night as Butler’s boys soccer team defeated Central Catholic, 3-1.
Thomas Sheptak added a goal for the Golden Tornado (5-3-2, 9-3-2). Jason Llewellyn, Nick Niebauer and Nick Kilgore had assists. Butler is unbeaten (7-0-2) in its last nine games, outscoring the opposition 19-3 during that stretch.
The Tornado return to action Thursday at Shaler.
Karns City 2, Mercer 1 — Lathan Price and Hobie Bartoe scored a goal each for the Gremlins. Mason Sherwin had an assist.
Girls Soccer
Liv Rock scored twice as Slippery Rock defeated Greenville, 4-2. Hannah Plunkard and Emily Plyler also registered goals for the Rockets.
Slippery Rock plays a varsity-only 5 p.m. game Wednesday at Harbor Creek.
Girls Volleyball
Knoch improved to 5-5 overall with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Burrell in a non-section match.
Scores were 18-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-23, 15-10. Madi Gardner had 15 service points and CeCe Kosecki 14 for the Knights. Alyssa Gallagher had 10 kills, Jess Farbacher eight kills.
Hockey
Owen Denny scored the lone goal for Butler as the Golden Tornado opened their PIHL regular season play with a 6-1 loss to Bishop McCort.
Brayden Povlick and Parker Worsley assisted on the tally. The game was tied at one before Bishop McCort scored four goals in the final seven minutes of the second period.
Butler plays Armstrong at 9 p.m. Thursday at the Belmont Complex.
