For the second straight year, Knoch fields the top two girls tennis doubles teams in the WPIAL’s Section 3-2A.

The Knights’ duos of Ally Bauer/Lindsey Greb and Ava Santora/Jade Nether met in the championship match Thursday at Hampton Community Park. Bauer and Greb earned the section title with a 6-3, 6-1 victory, though both tandems will be competing in the WPIAL tournament, which begins next Thursday.

Last year, Emily Greb and Lindsey Greb topped Santora and Nether for the title. This year marks the fourth straight season the championship has gone to Knoch.

This year’s tournament began Wednesday, with Bauer and Greb receiving a bye before dispatching teams from Burrell and Hampton to reach the final.

Santora and Nether also received a bye and topped duos from Ellis School and North Catholic’s Riley Pylant and Katie Hardy in the semifinals.

Pylant and Hardy went on to fall in the consolation match.

Class 3A — Mars’ Cece Crowley and Reese Hanna, who entered the Section 2 tournament as the sixth seed, rolled all the way to the final, where they ran into North Allegheny’s top-seeded duo of Emily Wincko and Abbey Swirsding.

Their run included wins over Butler’s Mikayla Turner and Cameron Hanratty and duos from North Allegheny and North Hills.

Seneca Valley’s Anna Winland and Bridget Elms won a match before falling in the quarterfinals.
