High school roundup

Drew Griffith turned in a time of 16 minutes, 25 seconds in leading Butler’s boys cross country team to a 22-37 win over Central Catholic Wednesday.

Owen Dressler (17:23), Jacob Falecker (18:24), Logan Rodgers (18:30) and Legend Wilkinson (18:33) were other top Butler runners.

The Golden Tornado girls dropped a 24-32 decision to Oakland Catholic. Ava Brewster paced the Tornado with a 20:11 while Madison McGarrah ran a 21:30, Madalyn Semmler 21:43, Makayla McLister 21:59 and Aliyah Young 22:39.

Boys Soccer

Karns City 8, Forest 0 — Lathan Price and Jacob Callihan scored two goals each for the Gremlins in this Tuesday game. Colson Ritzert, Myles McCully, Mallick Metcalfe and Hobie Bartoe all scored one.

Adam Smith and Price had two assists each.

Slippery Rock 1, Hickory 0 — Gavin Seigfried was the difference in this one, scoring the contest’s lone goal on an assist from Nick Kingerski. Connor Wallace made three saves in goal for the Rockets (8-3, 4-0).

Slippery Rock will visit Grove City on Tuesday.

Girls Soccer

Hickory 1, Slippery Rock 0 — The Rockets dropped this game in double-overtime Tuesday. Slippery Rock returns to action at 6 p.m. Thursday against Grove City, varsity only.

Karns City 6, Brockway 0 — Emma Dailey notched a hat trick and McKenna Martin, Cece Morrow, and Hanna Dailey all netted goals as well in this Gremlins victory. All four girls also had an assist, along with Lyrik Reed and Shali Slater.

Girls Volleyball

Redbank Valley 3, Karns City 0 — Rosalie Carden had two kills, eight assists and 10 digs for the Gremlins in this 25-16, 25-18, 25-15 loss. Ava Fox contributed two aces, six kills and 11 digs, Kendall Ritzert three assists and six digs, Nicole Taylor six digs, Jessica Dunn two aces and three kills, Hailey Karanbauer two kills.

Girls Tennis

Butler’s doubles teams of Jillian Clark and Ali Smith, Mikayla Turner and Cameron Hanratty lost in the first round of the WPIAL doubles tournament. Clark and Smith lost to Moon’s No. 2 doubles team 10-6 while Turner and Hanratty dropped a 10-3 decision to Mars’ No. 1 doubles unit.
