ACV earns volleyball sweep

Butler girls soccer wins big over Shaler

Behind Lexi Ruckdeschel’s 14 kills, 14 digs and six blocks, A-C Valley’s volleyball team overwhelmed host North Clarion with a sweep of the Wolves Thursday night.

A-C Valley won the match by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-15.

Bella Ielase added eight kills, Jenna Stefanacci 17 assists and Mackenzie Parks 12 digs for the Falcons (2-2).

Pine-Richland 3, Butler 1 — The Golden Tornado (4-2) salvaged just the third set in this meeting with the Rams.

Ava Plunkard had 16 assists, 12 digs and five kills for Butler. Audrey Lehman added eight kills and seven blocks, Molly Wogan four assists and four digs and Sarah Lucas six digs.

Pine-Richland won the match by scores of 25-10, 25-14, 22-25 and 25-8.

DuBois Area 3, Karns City 0 — Ava Fox’s five kills and nine digs highlighted this loss on the road.

The Beavers won the match by scores of 25-8, 25-21, 26-24.

Nicole Taylor added three aces and Jessica Dunn eight digs for KC.

Keystone 3, Moniteau 1 — The Warriors won the first set, 25-20, but dropped the next three by a combined 30 points

Davina Pry had four kills and four blocks, Bella Hernandez and Sydney Bayless both tallied three blocks and Abbey Jewart chipped in with three kills and 12 assists.

Blackhawk 3, Knoch 1 — Jess Farbacher had 19 service points and seven kills for the Knights in this 25-22, 22-25, 16-25, 16-25 defeat.

Madi Gardner served for 21 points, Nina Szymanski had 21 digs and Alyssa Gallagher had seven kills for Knoch (1-3, 1-1).

Boys Golf

Ryan Porch and Hunter Swidzinski both fired a 35 as Butler defeated Mars, 189-201, at Slippery Rock Golf Club.

Ben Hohns added a 38 for the Golden Tornado (8-4, 5-4).

The Planets’ top three included Blake Bertolo (35), Ryan Steigerwald (39) and Colin Stephenson (42).

Freeport 200, Knoch 210 — Nate Covey and Jayden Diehl both shot 37 for the Yellowjackets (13-1, 11-0) at Buffalo Golf Course.

Mitch Davies paced Knoch with a 39.

Boys Soccer

Freeport won its fourth straight game, dismantling Derry by a 5-0 score.

Isaac Wetzel led the attack with three goals while Angelo Porco contributed three assists.

Garrett Risch and Ryan Sutara both scored once while goalkeeper Ethan Rapp stopped five shots for the Yellowjackets (4-3, 4-2).

Butler 0, Fox Chapel 0 — Drew Knight earned the shutout for the Golden Tornado (5-3-1, 2-3-1).

Knoch 7, Leechburg 0 — Caleb Oskin scored three goals and had an assist.

Anthony Lajevic, Sam Caldwell, Will Parisi and Orrin Milcic also contributed goals for the Knights (4-3, 4-2).

Cross Country

Karns City’s Griffin Booher and Moniteau’s Jenna Zendron won the boys and girls meet, respectively, when the two schools faced off at Karns City.

Booher finished with a time of 18 minutes, four seconds while teammate Dillan Stroup was second at 19:28. Moniteau’s boys were paced by Alan Metz’s third-place finish of 21:56.

Zendron won the girls race at 22:08, followed by Karns City’s Sophia Bonetto (24:56).

Team scores were not recorded.

Girls Soccer

Leah Weiland and Samantha Miller both scored four goals in Butler’s 12-0 rout of Shaler.

Leah Deal netted two scores while Jolene Plaisted and Cecelia Wolford both scored once for Butler (3-3, 2-2).

Delaney Yaracs recorded five saves in the shutout.
