Scoop looks to reverse recent nose-dive

After nose-diving to a 7-4 record two weeks ago, I was marginally better last week, winning eight of 11.

But efforts like that aren't going to cut it. If I am to reach my goal of 100 wins, I have to pick up the pace and fast.

It won't be easy for a number of games this week are tough ones to call.

Am I up to the challenge? We shall see.

Butler at Hollidaysburg — I like what Butler's offense looks like early in the season and Hollidaysburg could be missing a few key players to injury.

Score: Butler 34-13

Seneca Valley at Pine-Richland — Too much talent on this SV team to lose three straight ... right?

Score: Seneca Valley 23-20

Indiana at Mars — I'm not often shocked by the outcome of a high school football game, but the Planets' loss at Blackhawk last week ruffled my feathers a bit. They'll get back on track against an Indiana team that has been playing with fire — consecutive one-point wins.

Score: Mars 30-16

Knoch at Southmoreland — The Scotties won for the first time last week, albeit against a struggling Derry team. Maybe I'm putting too much weight on that victory, but I think the Knights will stay winless by the narrowest of margins.

Score: Southmoreland 24-23

Freeport at Armstrong — The 'Jacket defense has been stout dating back to last season. It will certainly be a stiff test for Armstrong's star quarterback Cadin Olsen, but the River Hawks prevail.

Score: Armstrong 24-14

North Catholic at Highlands — Maybe last week's game against Aliquippa, in which the Trojans finished with negative yardage, is in the rear-view mirror. Then again, maybe not.

Score: Highlands 20-17

Saint Marys at Karns City — The Dutch won last year's meeting with KC in a thrilling finish. The Gremlins are dealing with some injuries and their lone win to date came against a Ridgway squad that's searching for answers.

Score: Saint Marys 26-16

Moniteau at Brookville — The Raiders don't seem to have the same talent as in years past, but they played a very good Keystone team last week and lost by just one point.

Score: Brookville 22-14

Union/A-C Valley at Brockway — The Falcon Knights reached the District 9 Class 1A final last year and returned a lot of talent. Their last two games, however, have been losses by a combined score of 86-13. What is going on??

Score: Brockway 37-18

Sharpsville at Slippery Rock — The Game of the Week, in my humble opinion. Two great offenses and both will make plays, but Slippery Rock's defense comes up with at least one big turnover.

Score: Slippery Rock 33-27

Rochester at Summit Academy — The Knights won last week, breaking a 14-game losing streak. They'll put up a fight in this one, but the Rams are just too good.

Score: Rochester 23-6

Scoop isn't impressed with his 25-8 record this season.
