This weekend of activities truly is for active members of society. They include some walking, some brain power, maybe even some skill, but that’s not cause to stay inside.
Residents of Butler County can try new things and meet people if they venture to any of these gatherings. You may be surprised how relaxing and fulfilling it can be to go out of your comfort zone.
That being said, let’s see what opportunities await you in the coming days.
• This is your final chance to Mingle on Main in Saxonburg! At 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, experience craft and food vendors and neighborhood camaraderie — all for free.
• The National Association of Scale Aeromodelers Scale Classic lasts from Friday, Sept. 16, to Sunday, Sept. 18, and will feature chances to fly model airplanes and be judged in various categories of skill. For information, visit nasascale.org/event/nasa-scale-classic-2022.
• Spooky season officially has begun, and Cheeseman’s Fright Farm is kicking of its festivities Friday, Sept. 16. Purchase tickets starting at dusk at 147 Kennedy Road, Portersville.
• There’s another Classic Automotive Cars and Coffee event set for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 17, at 758 Route 228, Mars. Adams Area Fire District will serve breakfast, with all proceeds benefiting the fire hall.
• Just down the road, the Adams Township Car Cruise will hold a benefit for the family of Jimmy Ellis, former vice president of the Adams Area Fire District. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Adams Township Municipal Building and Park, 690 Valencia Road, Mars, food and beverages will be available for purchase. There’s no limit to the cars you can take there, but a $5 donation is requested per vehicle.
• Penn’s Colony Festival kicks off a historic experience you’ll never forget at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, through Sunday, Sept. 18, at 365 Saxonburg Blvd in Clinton Township. See French and Indian War-era history before your eyes and purchase wares from fine craftsmen.
• If you mini golf, Saturday Sept. 17, at Erasers, 640 Evans City Road, Connoquenessing Township, you may meet some furry friends on the course. Butler County Humane Society is having its Adoption Event Par-Tee from 1 to 4 p.m., where animals up for adoption will be at every hole!
• The Western PA Ride for Kids allows any make or model of a street-legal motorcycle and encourages folks to join a benefit the for Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Come out for a fun ride and food. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, with kickstands up at 10:30 a.m. at Seneca Valley High School, 128 Seneca School Road, Jackson Township.
• The Maridon Museum is celebrating the Harvest Moon Festival at Butler Country Club, 310 Country Club Road, Penn Township, from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18. The event includes dinner and entertainment, with all proceeds going toward the museum. Register by Friday, Sept. 16, by calling 724-282-0123 or visiting maridon.org.
• Singers are invited to participate in the Music Club Chorus of New Castle’s performance of Handel’s “Messiah” at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Rehearsals begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, in fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Falls and Jefferson Streets, Ellwood City.
