Butler volleyball stays unbeaten
Audrey Lehman’s effort of 15 kills and three blocks sparked Butler’s 3-1 girls volleyball win against visiting Hempfield Thursday night.
Butler improved to 4-0 with the victory.
Ava Plunkard contributed 33 assists, five kills and five blocks while Brynn Morton tallied nine kills, 17 digs and three blocks.
The four sets were decided by a combined 10 points, with the Golden Tornado prevailing 28-26, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-23.
Franklin 3, A-C Valley 1 — The Falcons won the first set, then dropped the next three in this road loss.
Lexi Ruckdeschel had 12 kills for the Falcons, who bowed to the Knights by scores of 26-24, 23-25, 24-26 and 14-25.
Mackenzie Parks added five kills and 12 digs and Jenna Stefanacci 15 assists for A-C Valley (0-2).
Cranberry 3, A-C Valley 0 — The Falcons dropped this Wednesday match by scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-17.
Ruckdeschel tallied 12 kills, 12 digs and four blocks for the Falcons and Stefanacci contributed 22 assists.
Parks had three kills and 14 digs and Bella Ielase four kills.
Freeport 3, Deer Lakes 0 — The Yellowjackets made quick work of the visiting Lancers, earning the victory by scores of 25-17, 25-10 and 25-18.
Leah Schreckengost totaled 10 kills and three blocks for the Yellowjackets (2-0) while teammate Alaina Whitlinger had 13 service points and 10 kills.
Cassidy Dell had a strong night with 24 assists and three kills, Josie Russo added five kills and Sydney Selker 22 service points.
Knoch 3, Lincoln Park 0 — Madi Gardner served for 19 points and Melissa Karastury for 18 as the Knights won their section opener by scores of 25-9, 25-5 and 25-19.
Sierra Mock had 11 kills for Knoch (1-2, 1-0).
Keystone 3, Karns City 0 — Ava Fox managed seven kills and nine digs while Kendall Ritzert tallied nine assists, four digs and three aces in this loss for the Gremlins.
Rosalie Carden added 11 digs.
Slippery Rock 3, Mercer 0 — The Rockets overwhelmed the Mustangs by scores of 25-9, 25-12 and 25-21.
Anora Robare tallied 16 assists and Molly Bissel led Slippery Rock with nine kills.
Senior Virginia Recchia tallied 15 digs and eight assists.
Girls Soccer
Emma Dailey scored three goals and added an assist in Karns City’s 8-2 win over Saint Marys in Elk County.
McKenna Martin scored twice for the Gremlins while Hanna Dailey scored once and contributed two assists.
Lyrik Reed and Paige Dodd both had a goal and one helper.
Cece Morrow, Addy Christie and Shali Slater each chipped in with an assist.
Boys Golf
Cam Zigo’s 41 paced Freeport’s effort in a section match against Leechburg at Lenape Heights Golf Course.
The Yellowjackets shot 213 as a team and won via forfeit due to Leechburg not having enough golfers. Freeport improved to 9-1 overall and 8-0 in section matches.

District 10, Region 2 — Slippery Rock’s Jacob Wolak carded a 77 to place first individually at Grove City Country Club.
The Rockets finished with 374 strokes, good for third place out of six teams. Grove City was first with 350 strokes.

Nick Niebauer scored both goals in Butler’s 2-0 victory over Central Catholic.
Andrew Lucas and Dylan Murphy each had an assist while Drew Knight was in goal for the shutout as the Golden Tornado improved to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in section action.
Freeport 3, Jeannette 2 — Isaac Wetzel scored twice and Garrett Risch once for the Yellowjackets (2-3, 2-2).
Ethan Rapp stopped nine shots in the win, including a pair of penalty kicks.
Karns City 4, Saint Marys 3 — Lathan Price, Blake McCully, Jacob Callihan and Colson Ritzert each found the net for the Gremlins. Adam Smith and Braden Slater both contributed an assist.
Slippery Rock 2, Wilmington 0 — The Rockets (4-2) received goals from Nick Kingerski and Austin Hess.
Hunter Berry and Gavin Siegfried both dished out an assist. Connor Wallace stopped five shots in the shutout.
Knoch 6, Greensburg Salem 1 — Caleb Oskin netted five goals for the Knights in this blowout win.
Tye West scored the other goal for Knoch (3-1, 3-1). Tallying assists were Orrin Milcic (2), Evan Haas (2), Jay Allen and Mason Nebel.
