Berkheimer

This past year, I’ve received, as have others, four bills for taxes from Berkheimer. Two were for the city and two for the school district. To pay these bills, you had a choice of doing it online or through the mail, or going into the office and paying in person.

Bottom line, you had to do it four times instead of twice, as you had been able to do in the past. Talk about annoying.

I have several questions regarding Berkheimer.

1. Why was Berkheimer appointed to collect the taxes?

2. Who made the decision to appoint it?

3. How much is it paid to collect the taxes?

4. Where is the money coming from to pay Berkheimer?

5. Why were school per capita and city per capita line items billed separately, instead of being included on the school and city tax cards as they have been in the past?

I did contact the city building and wasn’t given much of an answer. As the old saying goes: If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.
