Butler girls golf opens with victory

SUMMIT TWP — Taylor Temple shot a 43 to lead the squad as the Butler girls golf team opened its season Monday with a 190-207 non-section win over Pine-Richland at Hiland Golf Course.

The Rams’ Sydney Fluhrer earned medalist honors with a 42.

The Golden Tornado host Seneca Valley and Indiana at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Hiland.

Region 2 — Slippery Rock’s Jason Wolak earned medalist honors with a 70, but the Rockets finished third overall out of six teams at the Region 2 match Monday at Slippery Rock Golf Club.

Levi Prementine carded a 96 for Slippery Rock, which had a team score of 357. Grove City won the event with a 327, followed by West Middlesex with a 332.

Trent Nemec led Grove City with a 77, teammate Tyler Hamilton carding a 78.

Butler 188, Knoch 217 — Wyatt Kos picked up medalist honors for the Golden Tornado (2-0), carding a 36 at Saxon Golf Course. Mitch Davies paced Knoch (1-0, 1-1) with a 39.

The Knights play Riverview Tuesday at Green Oaks Country Club. Butler plays Seneca Valley Thursday at Cranberry Highlands.

Freeport 222, Penn Hills 263 — Nate Covey paxced the Yellowjackets (2-0) with a 39 at Green Oaks Country Club. Lucy Brayton had medalist honors for Penn Hills, carding a 38.

North Catholic 184, Fox Chapel 187 — The Trojans picked up this win at Pheasant Ridge as Tommy Burke and Ethan Ellis both carded a 34. Fox Chapel’s Andrew Begg shot a 3-under-par 33 for medalist honors.

KSAC Mega Match — Clarion shot a 208 to win the first Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference Mega Match of the season. Moniteau was second with a 241.

Karns City’s Chloe Fritch and Moniteau’s Jacob Felsing tied for fifth overall with a 43. The Warriors’ Dawson Wallace tied for 10th with a 46. Clarion’s Lucas Mitrosky earned medalist honors with a 38.
