Powerful Music
Dear editor,
Recently my neighbor invited me to attend the Musicians Concert Band’s (MCB) performance at the Butler Intermediate School. When I wasn’t required to purchase a ticket — merely give a donation — I didn’t know what to expect, but I was immediately impressed with their beautiful, powerful music.
This is a large group of adult musicians playing at a professional level; and when they played patriotic classics (like “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”) and John Williams’ scores (such as the theme from “Star Wars”), the sound was booming, electric — magnificent. The level of difficulty for this concert was very high, but the ambitious guest conductor and the entire concert band absolutely nailed it. We were blown away when he explained that they had had only two hours of rehearsal the night before.
What a band. What a deal! As a new resident, I wonder if this is one of Butler’s best-kept secrets. I was sadly unable to make it to the next concert, but I will definitely be looking forward to the next season.
Gratefully,
Beth Myers
