PennDOT remove barriers

The temporary barriers that have become a fixture on Route 8 in Middlesex Township will be removed at the end of the week.

The state Department of Transportation announced Monday that crews will begin removing the barriers and painting temporary traffic lines Thursday evening.

The work will return unrestricted travel to Route 8 between Route 228 and the Allegheny County line Friday morning.

Final milling and paving will be scheduled at a later date.

Several small bridges and associated culverts were replaced in the work area.

Plum Contracting of Greensburg anticipates the project, which is part of a $3.8 million contract in the county, will wrap at the end of September.
