Patricia Snowden
Patricia (Pat) Alberth Snowden, 88, of Ellwood City (Franklin Township) died on Thursday, July 7, 2022.
Born March 4, 1934, in Worthington, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Himes and the widow of John (Jack) Snowden.
Pat was a graduate of Zelienople High School and Heidelberg College, where she studied elementary education. She devoted her professional life to teaching children, specializing in reading, in the Riverside School District, both at Marion and Riverside elementary schools. Her gifts as a teacher were also shared as a children and adult Sunday School teacher and camp counselor at Concord United Methodist Church, where she was an active member.
In retirement, Pat made more than 20 short-term mission trips to be the Lord’s hands, feet and voice in several countries, the most numerous of which were to serve children at orphanages in Russia. She also served people in the USA and locally as a volunteer with the Red Cross Disaster Action Team and The Carpenter’s Project.
Pat was a lover of family — her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren — and was their number one cheerleader. She was also a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan, a voracious reader, an encourager of the younger generation to step into reading, a bird watcher, ballroom dancer and, finally, a wonderful example of trusting God in the midst of great things, good things, hard things and challenging things.
Pat’s survivors include her daughter, Lisa (Larry) Brown of Zelienople; her son, Chris (Angela) Alberth of Fombell; four stepdaughters, Diane Terry of Ellwood City, RuthAnne (Kenneth) Frederick of Harmony, Karen (Paul) Hunter of Enon Valley, and Carol (Allen) Bowman of Cassell Beach, N.C.; one stepson, David (Lynn) Snowden of Ellwood City; one brother, Jim (Buffy) Himes of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Alberth.
