Singleton gets 2nd at Penn Relays
Butler senior CJ Singleton ran the mile in 4 minutes, 7.51 seconds Friday at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, setting a school record for outdoor track and field.
Singleton placed second in the event, behind Gary Martin of Archbishop Wood. His time was 4:01.04.
The Golden Tornado’s 4x100 relay team of Presley Ornelas, Guinness Brown, Lucas Slear and Brayden Young finished 10th in the NorthEast Division with a time of 43.63 seconds. They missed moving into the finals by one spot.
Softball
Maddie Gross scattered six hits and Lexie Hames hit her 10th home run of the season as Seneca Valley defeated previously unbeaten Hempfield, 2-1.
Hames’ homer came in the fifth inning, snapping a 1-1 tie. Hayley Walter delivered a run-scoring single for the Raiders in the second.
