Vogan belts 2 homers in same frame

Memorable inning for Slippery Rock senior

Slippery Rock senior Walker Vogan hit two home runs in the sixth inning Thursday in leading the Rockets to a come-from-behind 13-7 baseball win over Wilmington.

Slippery Rock (6-4) trailed 7-5 entering the sixth inning when Vogan led off the frame with a home run. He added a grand slam later in the inning as the Rockets scored eight times to pull out the win.

Brett Galcik pitched four innings of relief for the win. Shane Thompson had a single and four RBI, Ryan Montgomery two singles and three runs scored. Wilmington fell to 7-3 with the loss.

Slippery Rock plays at Oil City on Friday.

Softball

In a contest where both teams combined for over 30 hits and even more runs, Oil City got out to a five-run lead over A-C Valley in the top of the third. The Falcons stormed back with an eight-run frame in the bottom of the same inning, but the Oilers wound up with an 18-14 victory.

Avah Burke had a double and two home runs — one of which being inside the park — in the defeat. Lexi Bauer and Mackenzie Parks both notched RBIs, too. Parks had a four-hit showing.

Karns City 16, Cranberry 6 — Ava Fox had four hits — including a double and long ball — and five runs driven in as the Gremlins pulled away late against the Berries.

Megan Whitmire, Marra Patton, and Jada Polczynski all had multi-hit performances, as well.

Knoch 3, Highlands 2 — The Knights plated three runs in the first two innings and held off the Golden Rams late. Grace Hensch had an RBI and Madi Gardner, Brynne Smith, and Sophie Brandon all came across for Knoch.

Brynnae Coe went the whole way and got the win in the circle, giving up four hits.

Volleyball

Butler bowed to Shaler Thursday night in straight sets by the scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-17. The loss drops the Golden Tornado’s record to 6-6 overall, 4-4 in section.

Cam Ray had 21 assists and Coleton Welter 5 blocks for Butler. Welter and Max Gianneski both had 9 kills.
