Butler man accused of sex crimes involving child
State police have filed charges against a 21-year-old Butler man they say admitted to having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Kaleb A. Rearick is charged with three felony counts of statutory sexual assault, three felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and three misdemeanor counts of indecent assault, related to 14-year-old girl who was reported missing Dec. 13.
Following his arraignment earlier this month by District Judge Kevin O’Donnell, Rearick was released on his own recognizance.
According to police, the girl returned home Dec. 14 and was taken to a juvenile detention facility, where she revealed she had been having sex with an adult man while she was away from home.
During a Dec. 25 interview, the girl told investigators that a 15-year-old friend arranged for her to be picked up down the road from her home. She told investigators Rearick picked her up. She told them she had never met him before, but she understood she was supposed to stay at his home.
The girl told interviewers that while at Rearick’s home, they had sex multiple times.
“After the first time, they had intercourse, Rearick questioned her age, and at that point, she told him she was 14 years old,” police said. “Rearick acknowledged she was 14 years old and claimed to not have a problem with it.”
Police said the girl claimed she left Rearick’s home after one or two nights, and Rearick drove her to his cousin’s house.
“When Rearick dropped her off, he gave her a gun and knife for protection,” said police, citing the girl’s interview. “She left the gun inside Rearick’s cousin’s house and took the knife with her.”
Police interviewed Rearick on March 8. Police said Rearick admitted to picking up the girl, and she had stayed with him for two days and one night.
Police said Rearick told them he had sexual intercourse with the girl "three to six times” while she was at his residence.
Police said Rearick also described the moment he dropped the girl off at his cousin’s house, giving the girl a gun and knife for protection.
“Rearick explained the gun was a broken pellet gun and described the knife as a tactical knife with a window breaker and seat-belt cutter,” police said.
Police said the pellet gun has not been found, but the knife was found in the girl’s bedroom.
Rearick is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing April 14 before O’Donnell.
