Out on bond for vehicle theft charges, man arrested attempting to flee stolen truck

Police say additional charges include drug possession, DUI and resisting arrest

Out on bond for a case involving stolen vehicles and parts, a Sharon man was found in yet another stolen vehicle Friday, according to police.

State police on Friday arrested Chad P. Trimbur, 47, of Sharon, charging him with felony counts of attempted theft and possessing stolen property, as well as misdemeanor counts of drug possession, drug paraphernalia possession, DUI, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.

Following his arraignment by District Judge Sue Haggerty, Trimbur was placed in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bond.

Trimbur also likely will have bond implications in another case pending in Butler County Common Pleas court.

Cranberry Township Police arrested Trimbur on Jan. 8 and charged him in relation to a string of thefts involving vehicles and car parts, spanning one month and three counties. He was charged with 23 felonies and two misdemeanors in that case.

On Jan. 26, Trimbur posted his $20,000 bond; however, on Thursday Butler County Probation requested the revoking of Trimbur’s bond and the issuance of an arrest warrant. County Judge Timothy McCune granted the request.

According to charging documents in the latest case, state police received a report around 3 p.m. Friday about a white Ford F-350 stolen from the Wexford area. In the affidavit, state police said a Butler Township police officer found the stolen truck along Route 8.

State police said as Butler Township officers approached, Trimbur fled from the truck on foot.

“(A Butler Township officer) gave commands and the defendant failed to comply,” said the investigating trooper. “(The officer) deployed a taser, striking the defendant in the arm and the right side of the body.”

State police said Butler City Police also assisted at the scene, searching Trimbur’s clothing during the arrest. Police said they found two bags of suspected crack cocaine in Trimbur’s left sock.

Police said Trimbur was taken to the hospital for blood testing, during which time he was quoted saying, “I’ll submit, and there is cocaine in my system.”

Police said in addition to the outstanding warrant, Trimbur’s license also is suspended.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 24 before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.
