Butler tallied 4,202 pins to top the field after Baker Game 6 of the Western PA Regional Boys Bowling Tournament Saturday at North Versailles.
The Golden Tornado were defeated by Hempfield in the semifinal round, but are one of six teams to qualify for the state tournament. Greensburg Salem, won the regional. Other state-qualifying teams are North Allegheny, Greater Latrobe, Hempfield and Thomas Jefferson.
Butler’s Rocco Rice had the high game of the day at 265. His 639 series was third overall. The Golden Tornado’s Eric Devore rolled a 258 game — second highest of the day — and had a 634 series to finish fifth overall. Alex Ekas was ninth with a 216-605, Brock Hepler 25th with a 194-564.
The state tournament is March 19 in Lancaster.
Girls Basketball
Dominika Logue scored 24 points — 16 in the fourth quarter — and Keira Croyle added 20, but Union’s season ended with a 58-50 District 9 1A state qualifier loss to DuBois Central Christian.
The Golden Damsels scored 33 points in the second half, but could not slow down DCC.
Lexi Berta scored 20 points, draining six treys, for DCC.

Swimming
Katie Reott, an independent swimmer from Moniteau, won District 9 championships in the 100-yard breaststroke and 50-yard free style to advance to the state meet at Bucknell University.
Reott’s time was 1 minute, 8.06 seconds in the 100 breast, 24.54 seconds in the 50- free.
Slippery Rock’s girls won a number of medals at the District 10 meet, highlighted by Gracie Olshanski breaking the school record while winning the 50-yard freestyle in 24.52 seconds. The former record of 24.88 was set by Tabitha Donaldson in 2016.
The Lady Rockets’ 200 medley relay team of Natalie Double, Ann Katherine Burns, Mollie Massella and Olshanski placed fourth and lowered their school-record time to 1:53.53.
Other Slippery Rock medalists were Burns taking fourth in the 50 free and Massella third in the butterfly. On the boys side, Cody Hartle placed fifth in the 200 individual medley.
Slippery Rock’s girls finished fourth out of 19 teams. The boys finished 11th out of 17.
