Area students were inducted into the Baldwin Wallace University Honors Program during the fall 2021 semester. They were Ethan Hines of Grove City, a graduate of Grove City Area High School majoring in arts management and entrepreneurship, and Olivia Nassif of Mars, a graduate of Aquinas Academy.

The BW Honors Program helps motivated and talented students make the most of their college experience by joining a community of scholars dedicated to academic excellence, leadership development and community engagement.

Three Butler Catholic students won checks for placing in the Butler VFW Post 249’s Patriot Pen essay constes.

Post 249 members Jason Tindall and Joshua Wissinger presented Butler Catholic School sixth-grader Alexa Coyle with a check for $500 for winning first place for her essay on the subject, “How can I be a good American?” Alexa’s essay also won the district competition, which allowed her to move to the state level.

BCS eighth-grader Addison Johns won a $300 a check for second place.

BCS seventh-grader Jackson Jungling won a check for $200 for winning third place.

Caleb Cekella of Harmony was one of more than 130 Lebanon Valley College student-athletes to be named to the Middle Atlantic Conference's (MAC) Fall Academic Honor Roll.

Cekella, a gradute of Seneca Valley Senior High School, is a member of the Lebanon Valley College men's soccer team, and is pursuing a bachelor of science in actuarial science and computer and data science.

John Zitcovich of Cranberry Township is one of the more than 650 cadets and students at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., recognized for their academic achievements during the fall 2021 semester.

Gold stars are awarded to cadets and students at The Citadel who achieved a 3.7 grade point average or higher. Cadets and students who achieve gold star recognition are also placed on The Citadel's dean's list.

Ten Seneca Valley students were selected for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District Orchestra in Sharon last month.

The instrumentalists who were selected to participate included: Allison Alexander (11, cello), Marie Fouche (11, violin), Tristan Conrad (11, cello), Erin Keppler (12, violin), Gretchen Kellar (11, violin), Nathan Smith (11, viola), Aaron Sedlak (12, cello), Lindsay Walls Rivera (12, bass), Abigail Leslie (10, violin), and Maddie Shipe (11, bass).

Students worked under the direction of David Tedford with musicians from across Western Pennsylvania.
