The Butler boys took second place Wednesday in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League (WPIBL) Team Championships at Mt. Lebanon Lanes.

The Golden Tornado dropped a 2-1 decision to Greensburg Salem in the championship match.

Rocco Rice rolled a 710 series — with games of 264, 188 and 258 — to make the all-tournament team. Tornado teammate Eric Devore also made the all-tourney team with as 680 series, rolling games of 237, 197 and 246.

Brock Hepler rolled a 627 series (220, 203, 204), Alex Ekas a 571 (213, 184, 174) and Luke Keene a 549 (236, 150, 163) for Butler. The Tornado qualified for the team regional tournament.

The Butler and Freeport girls teams qualified for the regional through their performances at the WPIBL girls team tourney Thursday at Mt. Lebanon. Butler finished fifth and Freeport sixth.

The Yellowjackets’ Mackensie Livingston rolled a 601 series to make the all-tournament team. Penn-Trafford defeated Burrell, 2-0, to win the WPIBL girls title.

The Golden Tornado were led by Harley Kriess (256-591), Kelsee McConnell (221-546) and Natalie Coughenour (216-517).

Boys Basketball

Clarion 56, A-C Valley 50 — After scoring 33 points in the first half, the Falcons were limited to 17 in the final two quarters of this Wednesday loss.

Jay Clover paced A-C Valley (8-12) with 17 points and Brody Dittman added 13.
