Butler wrestling closes with win

Golden Tornado go 19-4 in regular season

Butler’s varsity wrestling team closed the regular season with a 54-20 win Wednesday night at Bethel Park.

Ana Malovich at 106 pounds, Kelley Schaukowitsch at 113, Dom Vivirito at 138, Landon Christie at 172, Mickey Kreinbucher at 189, Bryalon May at 215 and Jacob Pomykata at heavyweight all scored pins for the Golden Tornado.

Gavin Rush at 120 and Kase Chopp at 126 were all victorious for Butler (19-4).

The Tornado will compete in the individual section championships Feb. 26 at North Allegheny. The top four placers in each weight class will advance to the WPIAL Championships.

Boys Basketball

Dylan Gordon and John Sabo both drained 16 points to lift Slippery Rock to a 62-44 win at Fort LeBoeuf.

The Rockets (12-9) held a commanding 48-31 lead after three quarters.

Girls Basketball

Baylee Blauser scored nine points to lead A-C Valley, but the Falcons dropped a 49-24 decision at Keystone. Emma Gruber scored 13 points for Keystone as A-C Valley dropped to 2-19 on the year.

Hockey

Butler fell to Meadville Tuesday by a score of 5-2.

After falling behind 3-0, the Golden Tornado rallied with third-period goals from Adam Deal and Brody Simko.

EJ Delaney stopped 24 of 29 shots in net for Butler.

In the regular season finale, the Golden Tornado (6-12) will face South Fayette at 9:10 p.m. Monday at the Frozen Pond.
