Butler athletes shine at YSU
CJ Singleton, Guinness Brown, Tyler Rekich and Tristan McGarrah came up with memorable performances for Butler in Saturday’s high school indoor track and field meet at Youngstown State University.
Singleton broke the indoor school record in the 1,600 meters, winning the event with a time of 4 minutes, 13.47 seconds. The previous record mark was 4:14.51, set by Noah Beveridge in 2018. Singleton is ranked second in the state now.
Brown won the 200 meters in 22.23 seconds and 400 in 49.06. He is ranked first in the state in both events.
Rekich finished second in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 11 inches. His high jump of six feet took second as well. He is now ranked fourth in the state in the long jump.
McGarrah took third in the pole vault with a leap of 14 feet, 4 inches.

John Sabo scored 18 points and Elam Pyle added 11 as Slippery Rock rolled to a 63-43 victory at Sharpsville.
The Rockets outscored Sharpsville 16-5 in the third quarter to pull away.

Girls Basketball
Abby Jewart scoered 12 points and Moniteau rallied in the fourth quarter for a 40-39 victory at Keystone.
The Warriors trailed by three entering the final frame before scoring 16 points in the last eight minutes. Jewart sank two treys in the fourth quarter.

Swimming
Slippery Rock’s girls 200 medley relay team set a meet record at the Southern Tier Invitational. Natalie Double, Annie-Katherine Burns, Mollie Massella and Gracie Olshanski swam the event in 1 minute, 54.39 seconds. The mark also broke the school record of 1:55 set by Alyssa Olshanski, Barbie Cessar, Taylor Shaner and Makenna Shaner in 2018.
Massella placed second in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley. Gracie Olshanski was second in the 50 and 100 freestyle events while Double was second in the 100 back stroke and Burns in the 100 breast.
The Rockets’ 200 freestyle relay team of Double, Burns, Maddy Gauselman and Olshanski also won. On the boys side, Connor Wallace won the 50 freestyle in 23.37 seconds and took second in the 100 freestyle.
Wrestling
Seneca Valley won three out of four dual matches at the Ram Invitational. Liam Volk-Klos won all four of his matches at 215 pounds, three by pinfall. Connor Smith had a pin and picked up three forfeitures at 106. Evan Vetter earned three pins at 152 pounds.
The Raiders defeated Moon 48-18, Hampton 40-28 and Hempfield 45-29. The Raiders lost to Bethel Park, 42-24.
