Police: Smell of marijuana led to drugs, guns
After arresting a Clearfield man suspected of driving intoxicated Wednesday night, state police later charged him for drugs and guns they said they found inside his vehicle.
Christian S. Graham, 23, of Clearfield, is charged with felony unlicensed carrying of a gun, repairing or selling a weapon, drug possession and drug sales, as well as misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession and DUI.
Graham was arraigned Thursday by District Judge Lewis Stoughton and placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bond.
According to charging documents, police ran the registration of a black BMW traveling east in Franklin Township. Police said the report showed Graham as the registered owner and showed his license was suspended.
Police said they stopped the vehicle and found Graham alone inside. Police said the inside of the vehicle had a “strong odor of marijuana.”
Police said field sobriety tests showed Graham was impaired. During his arrest, troopers found 46 grams of marijuana in his pocket and “a large sum” of cash, according to police.
“Graham denied consent to search his vehicle,” police said.
Police arrested Graham under suspicion of DUI, and the vehicle was towed. The same night, District Judge Lewis Stoughton approved a search warrant for the vehicle.
Police said they found a loaded .40-caliber pistol; two semi-automatic rifles, one of which had a silencer attached; and two 12-gauge shotguns with sawed-off barrels.
Police also found about 343 grams of suspected crystal meth, more than 200 stamp bags of suspected heroin and 3 grams of suspected cocaine.
Police said Graham pleaded guilty in 2016 to felony robbery and carrying a gun without a license.
According to court documents, Graham in 2018 also pleaded guilty to felony fleeing from police and misdemeanor reckless endangerment and possessing drug paraphernalia. He was sentenced to serve two to five years for those crimes.
Graham is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing March 2 before District Judge Joseph Nash.
