West scores 20 as SV girls win big

Olivia West poured in 20 points in leading Seneca Valley’s girls basketball squad to a 47-14 home win over section foe North Hills Monday night.

The Raiders (10-5, 7-2) got out to a 15-2 lead by the end of the first frame and surrendered nine points through three quarters, building a 32-point edge. Ten girls notched buckets in SV’s third straight victory.

Knoch 50, Burrell 32 — Coming off of a four-game home stand, the Knights traveled to square off with the struggling Bucs.

Nina Shaw guided Knoch (14-2, 8-0) with 14 points, while Maddie Boyer (12 points) and Karlee Buterbaugh (11) did their part.

Knoch has won 11 straight games.

Mars 68, Fox Chapel 54 — The Planets (14-3, 7-1) received double digits in points from all five starters in defeating the host Foxes.

Freshman Vita Vargo paced the effort with 16 points, followed by Ava Black (13), Alexa McDole (12), Olivia Donnelly (12) and Kaitlyn Pelaia (10).

Wrestling

Knoch’s only victory in a 72-6 loss at Pine-Richland came via forfeit. Miranda LaJevic picked up the win at 106 pounds.
