SRU women's hoops rallies for comeback win
SLIPPERY ROCK — Trailing by 11 in the third period, the Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team rallied for a 77-71 overtime victory over Notre Dame (Ohio) Saturday at Morrow Field House.
The win was The Rock’s fourth straight and improves its record to 5-1, the program’s best start since the 1999-00 season.
SRU trailed 66-65 with 3:22 to play in overtime before going on a 6-0 run to grab a lead it never lost. The Rock put the game away at the free throw line.
Jamiyah Johnson led SRU with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Kennedy Middleton, Isabella Middleton and Daeja Quick all had 14 points.
The Rock returns to PSAC play Friday at Mansfield.
Charleston 78, SRU (men) 72 — The Rock’s three-game winning streak ended with this road defeat.
Jonathan McFall scored 26 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had three steals for SRU. Amante Britt contributed 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Frankie Hughes scored 13 points and Butler graduate Tyler Frederick scored 11 points and snared four rebounds in 30 minutes of action before fouling out.
SRU fell to 3-2 on the year while Charleston improved to 5-1.
The Rock plays at Mansfield Friday night.
