North boys advance in soccer postseason
North Catholic's Dylan Greggs scored the game's lone goal as the Trojans dealt South Park's boys soccer team its first defeat of the season, 1-0, in a WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinal playoff Thursday night.
Devin Paschall earned the shutout in net for North (11-7), which will face Charleroi, a 2-1 winner over Elizabeth Forward, in a semifinal Monday.
South Park ends its season with a record of 19-1.
Piper Coffield netted four goals as Mars overwhelmed Oakland Catholic, 6-0, in a WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinal.Addi Girdwood scored once and added four assists for the Planets while Rosie Pellegrino had a goal.Goalkeepers Megan Boddy and Kate McEnroe combined for the shutout.Mars (14-0-1) will play Montour, which defeated Kiski Area, 5-0, in a semifinal Tuesday.Moon 1, Butler 0 — The Golden Tornado (13-4-2) fell to the host Tigers in this WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinal.
Seneca Valley saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss in a WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinal against top-ranked North Allegheny.The Raiders fell by scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-20.
