Body found in car that exploded

Authorities looking into Cranberry Township death

Authorities are investigating the death of a person who was found Friday inside a car that burned and reportedly exploded in a restaurant parking lot in Cranberry Township.

The person was pronounced dead in the car after the fire and explosion were reported at 5:06 p.m. in the parking lot of Red Robin on Route 228. Emergency responders remained at the scene until just before 10 p.m.

Investigators are waiting for the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office to identify the person and determine the cause and manner of death, said John Hanovick, first deputy county coroner.

He said the car was intensely burned, and witnesses reported an explosion.

Cranberry Township police and state police are also investigating the death, he said.
