State to use new vaccine provider map
The Pennsylvania Department of Health is transitioning to a new electronic COVID-19 vaccine provider map that provides the latest information on vaccine availability and vaccination locations across the country.
Acting Secretary Alison Beam announced Friday that the department will transition to using Vaccines.gov, also known as Vaccine Provider, as the mapping source to help individuals find a location where they can get vaccinated.
“We know that some people may be looking for a certain brand of vaccine or want to know which locations have vaccine in stock. This transition provides the best information to Pennsylvanians who want to get vaccinated as we work to reach at least 70% of adults vaccinated,” Beam said.
The transition to Vaccine Provider for Pennsylvania also ensures that all vaccine providers in the state display on Apple Maps. Users can find nearby vaccination sites from the search bar in Apple Maps by selecting COVID-19 Vaccines in the Find Nearby menu or by asking Siri, “Where can I get a COVID vaccination?”
Google Maps and Facebook are also using Vaccines.gov as the source of the information being displayed as people search for a location where they can get the COVID-19 vaccine.
People can also text their ZIP code to GETVAX (438829) for English, or VACUNA (822862) for Spanish and receive three possible vaccination sites in their area, with phone numbers to call for an appointment.
The number of people getting vaccinated in the county and statewide continues to increase as the number of cases decrease.
The department reported that 3,774,492 people are fully vaccinated and 1,803,617 are partially vaccinated. About 80,000 people get vaccinated every day. A total of 9,041,237 doses have been administered including 5,578,109 first and single doses and 3,463,128 second doses. In the county, 19,446 people are partially vaccinated and 68,229 people are fully vaccinated.
The 31 new cases reported Friday in the county raise the total to 10,827 cases since the pandemic began, and 2,986 new cases statewide raise the total to 1,169,678. About 27,966 of the cases in the state are among health care workers.
Butler Memorial Hospital is treating 15 COVID-19 patients, including four in intensive care. BMH said nearly all patients admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 have not been vaccinated. The hospital also reported one patient died May 5.
A death in the county reported Friday by the health department raises the total to 410 since the pandemic began. Statewide, 47 new deaths bring the total to 26,494.
In nursing and personal care homes, there are 71,146 cases among residents and 14,929 among employees. Of the deaths in the state, 13,178 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.
There are 2,047 people hospitalized, including 448 in intensive care. The 14-day average number of people hospitalized per day is starting to decrease after peaking at 2,661 patients, which is slightly below what it was at the height of the spring peak in May 2020.
Butler Health System said appointments and walk-ins are being accepted at its vaccine clinics at the Clearview Mall and Clarion Hospital. Appointments can be made at www.butlerhealthsystem.org.
