COVID-19 threw the budgets of municipalities into question last year because of freezes on taxes and other funding sources.

As a result, Slippery Rock Township will wait until next year to work on more costly projects.

“We're not expecting to do any big projects this year,” said Karen Connell, secretary-treasurer for the township. “We're going to do our normal projects, like roads and maintenance, but that's hopefully it.”

The township supervisors heard a report at Monday's meeting about the township's 2020 audit, which is required annually.

Connell said this year's budget was prepared with the economic factors of the pandemic in mind because of the loss or delay of township revenue.

“We are preparing not to spend as much because we don't know what the earned income tax is going to be,” Connell said. “We have to play it a little close to the vest.”

The eventual 2021 audit for Slippery Rock Township will provide a clearer picture of the township's funds and which projects will be possible in the coming year, Connell said.

“We'll keep it low-key this year and see where we are next year,” Connell said.
