Kelly asks for $39 million for infrastructure

U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th, has requested more than $39 million to fund infrastructure and transportation projects around Butler, Crawford and Erie counties.

The most expensive requests are all in Butler County, and include $11,901,825 for improvements to the State Route 228 Three Degree Road Intersection, $8,287,600 for improvements to the State Route 68 corridor and $7.5 million for U.S. Route 422 Bypass Phase II Improvements, according to Kelly's website.

Kelly said in an email to the Eagle that these projects could yield a good return on investment by providing access to pivotal locations in Western Pennsylvania.

“My current requests were based on the top priorities with the best return on the taxpayers' investment in the 16th District,” Kelly said. “State Route 68, State Route 228 and U.S. Route 422 are vital access points for Butler County and key to economic growth.”

Kelly said he procured $71 million in transportation funding over the past three years, which funded other local infrastructure projects.

Each project could be completed one year after funding, Kelly said, and he emphasized that their completion would help spur economic growth in Western Pennsylvania.

“We made that clear to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and urged them to support as many of our submissions as possible,” he said.
