Man charged with fleeing
A Butler man is accused of running from state troopers when they tried to pull him over in his car, resulting in driving under the influence and fleeing charges.
Police said they saw Kenneth Anderson, 50, fail to come to a complete stop for a blinking red light at an intersection of Route 8 and Unionville Road in Center Township. Police said they saw him fail to stop at a stop sign after that, and they activated their emergency lights to pull the driver over. A chase, with speeds ranging between 25 and 50 mph, ensued before police stopped Anderson.
After several miles of pursuit, Anderson came to a full stop on Byers Road near Gallagher Road. They noticed Anderson was driving, and there was a passenger in the vehicle. Police said they spoke to Anderson and noticed his speech was slow, and he mumbled with a raspy voice. Police said he also had droopy eyelids and glassy eyes. They said they noted fresh “track marks” on Anderson's arms, which are indications of intravenous injections.
Anderson allegedly admitted to using heroin within the last day. Police are awaiting the results of a blood sample they collected at Butler Memorial Hospital. He was charged with a felony fleeing and misdemeanor driving under the influence and recklessly endangering another person. Anderson is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on June 8. He does not appear to have an attorney.
