Benninger 90th birthday
Janet M. Benninger of Butler celebrated her 90th birthday April 15 with a card shower, receiving over 100 birthday cards from friends and family. She was overjoyed by the love and wishes sent.
The former Janet Sweezy was born April 15, 1931, in Butler. She married Russ Benninger on Feb. 16, 1957, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.
She has four children, Russ (Dr. Barbara Gibson) Benninger of Butler, Doug (Laura) Benninger of Prospect, Rick Benninger of Butler, and Rebecca (Jeffrey) Cypher of Evans City.
She also has seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and another great-grandchild on the way.
Before her marriage, she was a telephone operator and helped plan telephone operator reunions.
She joined St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in 1957 and was an active member being a greeter and a Eucharistic minister. She volunteered for the RCIA program from 1983-1989 and the CCD program from 1974 to 2016.
She enjoys yoga, knitting, babysitting and playing cards. She has had an ongoing card group for 71 years and has hand-knitted many prayer shawls to help others in need.
Her advice for living well is to eat healthy. She is known to always have an emergency salad ready for those who visit.
